In October 2018 the 16th annual meeting of the Society of Neuroeconomics (SNE2018) was held at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. in collaboration with the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and the School of Management, Beijing Post and Telecommunication University, a team of researchers from SIUS’s Key Laboratory of Brain and Cognitive Science, SBM and the Institute of Neurological Management, presented a total of five interdisciplinary researches on neurosciences/economics or management, with SISU as the first or co-authors.  Among them, the research report, “How beauty affects fairness in social decision making: An fMRI study on face attractiveness and the ultimatum game” (3-H-28), with Prof. Pan Yu as the first author, received wide attention and was selected for oral reports at the 7th Consumer Neuroscience Satellite Symposium.  This study combines the classical fair decision behavior model in economic research, Ultimatum Game, and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), to examine the influence of face attraction on fair social decision-making and finds that a highly attractive face can significantly change the neural processing mechanism in the brain for unfair quotes in the Ultimatum Game, which in turn causes individuals to reject or accept different choices for unfair offers.  This study is a typical interdisciplinary study where management or economics are combined with neuroscience.
