2019 SISU MBA BST at the University of Pennsylvania(GLPS)

On July 21, an unforgettable MBA overseas business study tour (BST) began at the ivy league University of Pennsylvania. Under the leadership of vice dean Wu Yunqiao and MS. Chen Ying, SISU MBA students walked into UPENN, discussed current global hot issues with famous teachers and explored global leadership and problem solving. Through a series of lectures, case studies, field visits, interactive exchanges, cultural experience and other forms, they came to find effective solutions to current challenges, comprehensively improve the global vision, and improve leadership and problem solving ability.

Walking into the beautiful campus of Penn university, you can find the campus with green trees and red walls sending out a thick cultural atmosphere, everywhere you can see students with different styles. Students have been deeply involved in the process of interaction and communication with professors, starting from global hot issues such as water pollution control, social resources imbalance, eldercare crisis and human trafficking, and analyzing problems from the perspective of globalization and innovation to discuss how to tackle these challenges through the improvement of leadership.

The learning journey begins with a series of fascinating lectures and group discussions. Professors Chao Guo and Joseph Tierney first proposed to the students the severe problems and challenges encountered in the world at the current stage, which stimulated the students to discuss and think deeply. In the following courses, professor John DiIulio started from the indicators related to human and economic development and put forward the key theories and methods of Why, What, How and Who in leadership and problem solving. Aline Gatignon shared great ideas on innovation and organizational change. Professor Priya Rajagopalan discussed the issue of human trafficking with students. Dr. Merritt Cooke looks at water issues of common concern in China and the United States. Professor Joseph Tierney and professor Daniel Dilulio guided students to focus and discuss on eldercare issues, and other related social issues and solutions. Starting from the case of venezuela, Dr. Dorothy Kronick guided students to think about solutions to corresponding social problems based on the current situation at home and abroad. Through excellent courses and lectures, the famous professors and students fully participated in the discussion and exploration from the issues of water resources management to human trafficking around the world, from malaria to eldercare crisis, striving to improve global leadership, and problem solving abilities.

In addition to the excellent lectures and panel discussions, the field visit is also one of the highlights of SISU-UPENN business study tour. Students went out of the classroom and visited Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library. Under the guidance of the staff, the students observed the erosion of geomorphology caused by soil erosion on the spot. Combined with the explanation and analysis of the staff, they learned about their efforts in soil erosion, river protection and water resource management. In the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art, students listened to the wonderful sharing on water resource management and had a heated discussion within the group. In addition, students also came to John Heiniz National Wildlife Refuge in Tinicum. Under the guidance of teachers and staff, they learned about their importance in Wildlife and ecological protection. Through field visits and learning, students realized more about the importance of ecological protection and the role and responsibility of future leaders in protecting ecological environment.

Through learning in and out of the classroom and communication with professors and students at UPENN, SISU MBA students have gained many ways to analyze and solve problems. More importantly, they have improved their perception of social problems and leadership. At the end of the course, through cooperation with group members, students made full use of what they learned in class to discuss China's eldercare crisis and presented a wonderful group report and presentation, which was unanimously recognized by professors at UPENN. In the end, professors of UPENN jointly awarded the graduation certificates to the SISU MBA students, marking a successful conclusion for this overseas business study tour.

Although the two-week overseas study tour was short, students have taken fully advantaged in involving into the elite class, communicating with famous scholars, and having an in-depth field understanding on the trends in science and technology innovation and business environment in the United States. Returning to China with full harvest and satisfaction of realizing dreams, students are motivated to devote themselves to the future study and exploration. This BST combines reading with traveling, providing students with a rare experience to broaden their horizon, increase their knowledge and cultivate their abilities. What they have seen, heard and learned all the way will leave precious memories for the students, and inspire them to continue thinking and learning.
