In order to further the spirit of the Party Committee and the university Union on improving the transparency of school affairs and strengthening democratic management, and to enhance the enthusiasm of faculty to participate in democratic management and decision-making, the 9th SBM Congress was held in Hongkou Campus on the afternoon of January 16, 2019. The whole faculty of SBM attended the meeting. CPC Secretary Xu Yong presided over the meeting.
Mr. Xu first made an opening speech, and pointed out that in the past year, with the support of leadership, departments and administrative staff, SBM fully implemented the requirements of the 19th Party Congress, revolved around the university’s “Double Tier One strategy, adhered to the principles of educating people through teaching, research, management and service, made great efforts to improve the everyday and innovative work, and steadily promoted the development of various work, therefore successfully achieved planned goals and greatly improved the discipline. As an important part of the management system of SBM, the faculty congress undertakes the important tasks of implementing the Party's directions and principles, safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of faculty, organizing them to participate in democratic management and supervision, and uniting them to actively participate in educationreform. It is of great significance that the faculty congress play a bonding role so that it shall unite all faculty and staff, enhance cohesiveness, adhere to the principle of democratic schooling, and construct a high-level distinctive management school.
Next, SBM Dean Pan Yu made a presentation on the development of the school in 2018. The report provided a comprehensive review of the work of the college in 2018regarding party building, discipline construction, faculty team, talent training, scientific research and international exchange, and explained the focus of the college's work in 2019. Mr. Pan fully affirmed the fruitful achievements of the all the faculty, conducted an objective and detailed analysis of the current situation of SBM, and encouraged all faculty to unite and work together. He hoped that, under the joint efforts of the faculty and under the opportunity of Double Tier One strategy, a comprehensive development of SBM is highly possible.
Vice Dean of the SBM Ms. Yang Xiaolan reported on the student cultivating program, and put forward the main points of the SBM work on education reform in 2019. The report described the discipline-based enrollment to be carried out this fall. The undergraduate also explained reform for the current undergraduate students, who will follow traditional track in the first two years, and receive special focused training in the second two years. The report also proposed a streamlined program for graduate and PhD students to ensure that the training program of academic ability be strictly carried out throughout the three stages of the students’ education, and cultivate best talents for the school’s “Double Tier One” efforts. Prof. Yang also put forward new requirements for the teaching staff, encouraging everybody to stick to the initiative of education and cultivate excellent talents with an ever stronger sense of mission.
Vice Dean Wang Fenghua gave a report on the international accreditation efforts, summarizing the achievements of SBM in enhancing the influence of internationalization in the past year, and emphasized the importance and urgency of passing AMBA and EQUIS in the next one or two years. Wang then elaborated on the long-term plan of SBM to pass the AACSB accreditation within five years, and called on all the teachers to get involved actively and to contribute to the internationalization of SBM.
Chairman of the Union Ms. Zhang Xin reported on the work of the union in 2018. In 2018, under the strong support of the university union, the school union continued to deepen the democratic management. It gradually implemented the proposals collected at the faculty congress last year, improved the teaching and office environment, contributed to the construction of the team buiding of the faculty, actively carried out cultural and sport activities, and enforced the ten must-visits and other activities to look after faculty members, in order to enhance the cohesiveness of the labor organization. In the previous year, SBM union was awarded “Advanced Faculty Team”, “Advanced sporting group”, as well as other honorary titles of the SISU.
In order to fully stimulate the enthusiasm of the teachers and to further motivate the teachers into enhancing their academic research capabilities, the college collected opinions extensively before the meeting, and formulated the Teacher Academic Vacation arrangement and the Temporary Measures for the Overseas Trainings of Full-time Teachers. During the meeting, the faculty of our college reviewed the two documents in detail, and voted to adopt them.
The meeting then saw Dean Pan announce the list of honorary titles of the year 2018, such as Excellent Union Members, Outstanding Party Members, and Outstanding Tutors.,
At the congress, an election for the next session of union committee was also held. Speaking on behalf of the new union committee, the new union chairman Zhang Xin affirmed the support of everyone, thanked all the teachers for their support and help on the labor union work, and promised that the new term labor union would continue to provide better services for all teachers.
Under the guidance of the university union, SBM keeps the routine of convening a faculty congress once a year, and continuously explores the conference's form and effectiveness. In 2019, the work of the college will face new opportunities and challenges. The convening of the faculty made the faculty clearer about the current situation and development of the school, further enhanced their cohesiveness, and inspired their sense of ownership.
