On 24th Nov, the 3rd International Carnival of SISU, jointly organized by the MBA Center of the School of Business and Management and the School of Chinese Studies and Exchanges, was held successfully in the Yifu Hall, Hongkou District.

SISUers from nearly 30 countries across the globe participated in the kaleidoscopic Carnival. The leadership and teachers of both schools also attended the event. In the meantime, the activity had gained strong support from Office of CPC Affairs, Office of the President and University Secretariat, the Graduate School, Office of Campus Security and the University Facilities Services.

The Carnival kicked off under the co-host of MBA students and international students. Mr. Wu Yunqiao, Director of the MBA Center of the School of Business and Management, delivered the opening speech. He describedthe International Carnival as an arena in this borderless world where the global cultures meet and mix, where comprehension and tolerance of different cultures are realized, where international ambience and environment is continuously elevated, and where endorsement for nurturing international talents by SISU is formed

Later, students from around the world danced and sang with their indigenousuniforms on, and different stands were set up to display various ethnic cultures. Each stand was elaborately decorated by international students with the help of volunteers to show the unique cultural features and delicious food of their country. Asian students from India publicized fascinating culture; African students from Cameroon presented idiomatical handicrafts; European Students from Belgium demonstrated the skills of chocolate making and Argentinean students brought on distinctive football charisma. The hall was filled with waves after waves of joy and laughter as if all the people present were from one big family.

What’s more, the audience had to keep their jaws from falling when they saw themiscellaneous performances given by students of different countries on stage, including the traditional Chinese Taiji Boxing, powerful Romanian dance steps, Cameroonian hot dance, Mexican piano solo and so on. Every characteristic show was greeted by thunderous applauses and cheers from the crowd. Students of SISU MBA brought to the audience a fusion performance of classic and modernity: Taiji, popular songs and calligraphy, which won them acclamations from the international students.

The grace and grandness plus history and modernity on-stage and off-stage made one feel as if in a small-sized world-expo site. This cultural feast forged by students from different nations drew more and more people into the hall. The attendees, with the Carnival passport in hand, stopped at each stand collecting seals, tasting special delicacies, admiring varied crafts and carefully savoring the exotic charms and local cultures. When the campaign came to an end, the audience voted for each delegation of the Carnival and eventually the Kazakhstan delegation won the special prize.

As an annual cultural party at SISU, the International Carnival brings together SISUers from all around the globe for them to embrace and communicate with each other and to enjoy the fusion of multiple world cultures, showing the breadth and profundity of internationalization in SISU.
