Major of Big Data Management and Application

Recently, the Alliance for the Promotion of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence in Universities released the ranking of "2021 Comprehensive Strength of Big Data Management and Application Teaching in 140 Universities in China". It is reported that the major of Big Data Management and Application of Shanghai International Studies University ranks the first in the same category in Shanghai universities and the 11th in the same category in national universities. This signifies that the management science and engineering discipline of the School of International Business Administration has made rapid progress and is highly recognized by the domestic counterparts.

  In March 2020, the application for the establishment of the undergraduate major in big data management and application was approved by the Ministry of Education. The major of Big Data Management and Application is located in the international business administration program in SISU, which is incorporated into the major category of management science and engineering training. The major of Big Data Management and Application is positioned in the direction of computational finance and quantitative investment, emphasizing the application of artificial intelligence and big data in the field of finance, and studying in depth the cross-fertilization of finance and technology in the era of big data. Students can take English double-degree courses during their study, and they can get a Bachelor of Arts (minor) degree after passing the examination.

In addition, the Department of Big Data Management and Application of SISU is based on the "Excellence in Management Talents Program" of IBA and other parallel majors in Information Management and Information Systems (Data Science and Business Analytics). It provides students with the opportunity of "one college entrance examination, two choices", avoiding the situation that students choose a major that does not match their interests and potentials due to the lack of in-depth understanding when filling in the college entrance examination. Students are admitted into two major categories, Business Administration and Management Science and Engineering, and implement the "Excellence in Management Talent Program". At the end of the 4th semester, students can choose the major of Big Data Management and Application voluntarily according to their own disciplinary interests and abilities.

Big Data Management and Applications has excellent running conditions, with the University Key Laboratory of Brain and Cognitive Applications, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Application Laboratory, as well as the Institute of Data Science and Intelligent Decision Making, the Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Computational Finance and other platforms to help the discipline achieve leapfrog development. The college has established a disciplinary information portal based on the university library, which integrates literature resources, research hotspots, dynamic information and other academic information in business administration, management science and engineering and related interdisciplinary fields to provide one-stop academic research services for teachers and students.

 In order to promote the development of disciplines and professional development, School of Business and Management has successively imported talents from world-class universities such as Harvard University, University of Pennsylvania, Georgia Institute of Technology, University of Cambridge, and National University of Singapore, and established a faculty led by a number of academic leaders. The research results of the School have been published in various journals (including Science, PANS, UTD24, FT50); the faculty members of the School have presided over various high-level research projects such as the National Social Science Major and the National Autonomous Science Key.
